When you want to do something, but you don’t know “How”

Adding a Facebook like box to your website can be a bit like this. But you know what, it’s not as hard as you think if you haven’t already tried it.

With this step by step guide I’ll show you what to do.

Do You

Feel like your procrastinating and getting know where.

The more you try the more you get behind. Guess what I’ve been there.

Then one day I started to work on my mindset. Instead of making excuses that just shut me down like:

1. What’s the Point
2. I’m to Busy
3. It’s to Hard
4. I don’t know where to Start
5. It’s to late to Learn

BLAH, BLAH, BLAH

I started to work on positive thinking to move forward

Take Thomas Edison he had many failures before he got the light bulb right. Shows anything is possible if you put your mind to it.

Turn those negative ideas into positive.

So here’s what I want you to DO.

Over 30 days, write down in your Journal or Book. The most smallest changes you can make daily to improve your mindset.

It may be something as simple as Learn How to use the internet to research new things, use your imagination.

Then look back on your notes and see the positive changes you’ve made.

So take “ACTION” Work on your mindset and focus on what you can do right now.

It was great to catch up with my Mother over 2012 New year.

During the course of our conversation we spoke about my first guitar lesson.

My mum recalled how she started me on a three chord structure.

As we talked I got more of an image, how I had such a passion for playing the guitar and why the three chord basic structure has helped me with my songwriting.

Have you been on the net and before you know it, a couple of hours have gone by. This maybe updating Facebook or checking out other sites.

Then you find that one site that has information that interests you, damn this is where you are hooked in, an example Youtube.

I don’t know about you but this site can keep me awake for hours on end.

You end up asking yourself what did I achieve, in some cases a big fat NOTHING?

Free up time online

With so much information overload on the internet it can take up a lot of our time. These were tips that might help you save your time.

To be more productive start timing yourself.

You might want to try using an egg timer. Set your clock, when the alarm goes off, see how much you’ve accomplished.

Start Timing

Face book: 25 mins
check messages, comments, invites, upload a video, send replies.

Research: 30 mins
Amazon, Youtube, websites for ideas to write in your posts.

Blog posts: 30 mins
See how much you can write. Just write and after your time is up review what you have written.

Comments: 20 mins
If someone has made a comment take the time to respond back. It may be as little as thanking your reader for checking out your stuff.

Flickr: 20 mins
Upload and share those pics you’ve taken.

Twitter: 10 mins
Tweet out your content.

You’re Stuck

You have so many music idea’s in your head. You just don’t know which way to GO.

The more you think the more you feel confused.

Annoying

The most hardest thing.

Where do you start to sort yourself out, this can irritate you even more.

You just need to figure out where your idea’s fit in the scheme of things?

So here are 5 ways that may help you find your niche market.

1 – Write Your Idea’s Down

Write down every idea. It doesn’t matter if it’s the most craziest thing just jot it down.

Yeah and don’t think you don’t know a lot, by writing down all your ideas before you know it, you have a page full of stuff to work from.

Moving On

2 – Work Out The Obvious

Now go through your list and work out up to 3 to 5 things you can do “Right Now” Example

• Build a basic website
• Write an article
• Play music (Write down different Styles of music)
• Manage a band

Now What

3 – Research the Market

OK, OK now your probably thinking now what. To easy go over to Google Trends and type in your examples above and see what the market is like in that niche. Look at the graph is this niche growing or declining.

4 – Run A Survey

You can go over to Survey Monkey and run a survey to get feedback.

5 – Check out Articles

Who know’s you might work out “playing rock music” could be a more profitable niche market to be in. (You were thinking Folk Music?)

In the blog’s sphere, there’s bound to be many good posts to help you validate “rock music” as your market. Another suggestion check out a few forums

Still Unsure

Some people can find a niche market quite easy, while others it takes a bit more time to figure out.

Find your niche first then research the market before you spend money on websites.

If all else fails go back to your list and go through it again. Keep thinking outside the box there just maybe one idea you have missed and not picked up on.

What free cost me

Taking it back a couple years I wanted a website and a mate of a mate suggested he would looove to build me a site.

OK

I offered to pay up front, but he insisted he wanted to do my site for free.

What do you think? Why Not.

I had nothing to loose, I knew nothing about websites.

SO FAR SO GOOD

That site at the end looked choice, at least to me it did.

A month went by and the bloke gave me a call and said he was gonna be charged $100 for the domain name. I had to pay for it if I wanted the site to stay up. No worries I paid and asked for a receipt, he was ok with that.

A few months later he hit me up again for an annual fee to pay for hosting $400, he explained what it was and again I was cool with that, paid the money, received a receipt.

Later on down the track for some unbeknown reason I came across a web builder, we chatted as you do, I told him about my site he had a look at it, then he asked me, if in the future I wanted to update my site consider his services.

He went through all this stuff that should be on my site to get traffic, blah, blah, blah, interesting

He then went through his prices one being hosting $120 a year? My ears perked up

HANG ON

Take that back a step $120, remember I paid $400 for hosting?

Then the web builder mentioned $20 for a domain, why was I charged $100? Go figure.

After hearing this, curiosity got the better of me so I called that mate of a mate and asked what hosting company he was using, would you believe it, it was the same one as the web builder.

I didn’t carry on with the conversation I believe karma has it’s own way.

You know I had no problems paying any money, but to be told “Bull Shit” this is what pissed me right off.

THERE WON’T BE A NEXT TIME

The next time this mate of a mate chases me up for more cash, you know where he can shove his website.

NO WORRIES

You move on and learn.

Sound familiar

Sometimes you can get frustrated with whatever it is you’re working on.

One solution, take a break then come back a few hours later or the next day.

Don’t sweat it!

Your problem is still going to be there until you either finish what you started or just put it aside in the too hard basket. Does this sound like you?

Don’t Rush

Whoa take a step back. When you come back and revisit your material look at it from a different angle, don’t rush to get the job done.

As the old saying goes “Rome was not built in a Day”

Let’s face it by rushing is it going to help you?

The Race between the Turtle and the Rabbit

Remember the Turtle and the Rabbit. The turtle kept going at a slow pace, while the rabbit thought he was smart and decided to have a sleep. In the end the turtle won the race even though he was slower.

The point being if the turtle had moved any faster would it have made any difference?

When you take a Break and look at your plan

• What can you add or take away

• Analyse your content, is there to much jargon

• If you’re feeling stuck call a friend or hire a coach/mentor

Stop hitting your head against a Brick wall and Hit that comment section and tell us what’s frustrating you

As a musician at times you can lack passion.

Lose interest in performing.

You once had determination, then all of a sudden it’s gone.

All that effort and time you dedicated doesn’t seem to matter.

So then what happens

You Give UP

It’s not that you don’t want to stop playing it’s just you might not have the motivation you once had.

If you played music as a profession and find the venues aren’t paying like they use to, this can effect your passion to want to keep performing.

If you’re expectations are too high, you may be setting yourself up for disappointment.

How do you get the passion back.

You have to love what you do no matter how you are feeling. The real secret is having determination, putting the effort and time back into what you enjoy doing, music.

Then

• Stick with what you love
• Don’t give up on what you believe in
• When times are tough you still keep going

When you are playing in a venue. It’s times when someone comes up, compliments you on a song, you have played that touched them, they feel the passion in your playing.

PS: Hey you know what at times, my passion gets pretty low.

What’s so great about playing guitar by ear?

• You don’t have to depend on sheet music

• You can pick a tune and play it straight away

• Tune your guitar to any tuning

It’s no accident that many self-taught guitarist learn’t from listening to other musicians by ear.

It’s also no coincidence that many guitarist who have the ability to play by ear, have learn’t a valuable skill. Even if you don’t have any musical background.

Copy What You Hear

The note is what you hear that sticks inside your head. You then duplicate or copy that sound onto your instrument.

Past experience playing by ear. An example when I was 12 yrs old my guitar teacher Spooks taught me my first song “Guitar Boogie”

He played his guitar with his back facing me so I couldn’t see where his fingers were. Then he turned to watch me play and find the notes on the fretboard.

It didn’t stop there. I’d practice everyday, rain, hail, or snow. (Only Kidding)

Train Your Ear

Assuming you already know how to basically play a note or chord on the guitar

Choose a simple song. (3 chord song)

Listen to the song and try to find the chord. Then when you feel you have the right chord, proceed with listening to the rest of the song, bit by bit.

The more you practice this technique, it then becomes easier.
